Get to Know the GRE® General Test and Services

Are you interested in pursuing a career in occupational therapy (OT)?  Or, are you interested in going into a healthcare field and want to learn more about OT before deciding which path to pursue? Then this workshop is for you!  The following topics will be covered:

  • Information about the OT profession, including the types of occupations that OT practitioners address in their services, settings where OT practitioners work, types of individuals, groups, or populations that OT professionals work with, benefits of OT as a career, and qualities that make a good OT practitioner.
  • A day in the life of an OT practitioner - hear from current OT practitioners about what a typical day/week looks like for them. Presenters will include Ray Cendejas, COTA/L, an occupational therapy assistant who works in community mental health; Kyra Barillier, OTR/L, a pediatric occupational therapist; and, Max Carlson, an occupational therapist who works in acute care and home health.
  • Client panel - hear from past or current individuals who have received OT services.
  • A brief overview of the Illinois Occupational Therapy Association.
  • Information about all OT and OTA programs in Illinois.
  • An overview of the application process for OT/OTA programs.
  • Information about preparing for the GRE, including test-taking strategies and free study resources. The presenter will be Jim Albertone, Associate Director of Academic Partnerships – Midwest for Educational Testing Service (ETS).
