Meet the Board with Elizabeth Kohler-Rausch

Hello all! Today I bring you an interview with ILOTA board member Elizabeth Kohler-Rausch. In this interview, Elizabeth talks about her professional background, her position with ILOTA, and what she’s learned from being in this position.

1. What is your current position on ILOTA’s board and activities do you engage in to fulfill that role?

I am the co-coordinator for the Pediatrics Special Interest Section.

2. Please tell us about your professional background.

I have been working as an OT for 8 years primarily in pediatric settings. I see children of all ages and diagnoses, but my specialties include pediatric feeding disorders and pediatric pelvic rehab.

3. How did you choose the position with ILOTA?

I have been involved with ILOTA since 2014 and I was happy to volunteer for a position that helps support pediatric practice in the state of Illinois.

4. What are some key things you have learned and/or contributed while working with ILOTA’s board?

I have really enjoyed seeing what other OTs in the state are doing to promote and support our profession. I have learned not only how much we need an organization like ILOTA, but also how much ILOTA needs us.

5. What are your goals for the future at ILOTA?

I hope to continue my role as the co-coordinator for the Pediatrics Special Interest Section and be able to create or provide resources that truly make an impact and support those in practice.

6. How do you create a work/life balance for yourself?

I have to prioritize my to-do list. There is so much work that goes into pediatric practice outside of direct treatment and not everything can get done in a day.

7. What are your interests outside of work?

My 2 children keep me busy outside of work. I also like to cook, go to yoga classes, and spend time with friends.

8. What advice would you give to an ILOTA member?

My advice to an ILOTA member would be to get involved. It doesn’t have to be at the state level. There are so many ways to support the OT profession whether at your own place of employment, AOTA, etc. It doesn’t have to be on a regular on-going basis. We learn so much by supporting each other whether or not we have many years of experience or what level of degree we have.
