Description:

This course is designed for occupational therapy practitioners (OTPs) in educational settings seeking to enhance their practice by implementing neurodiversity-affirming practices to support students. Participants will gain knowledge on how to provide strength-based, client-centered, and evidence-based interventions that promote academic access and social-emotional well-being for neurodivergent learners, and their peers alike. This course will equip school-based OTPs with the tools to implement neurodiversity-affirming practices to enhance student success. OTPs will gain insight on how to create inclusive, supportive, and affirming school environments that foster feelings of belonging, and encourage meaningful participation, for all learners.

Objectives:
By the end of this workshop, participants will be able to:
  1. Describe the neurodiversity-affirming paradigm,
  2. utilize neurodiversity-affirming strategies and resources to complete a case study through collaboration with colleagues, and
  3. describe one way to utilize neurodiversity-affirming practices in current practice.
Speakers:
Julia Gabrielle Sim, OTD Student

Phoebe Jerousek, OTD, OTR/L (Supervisor)
