Tech Tool Spotlight!Spotlight cliparts

Welcome to a new feature to our ILOTA website!  Each month we will be reviewing a different tech tool for you to explore and use in your practice.  The tool chosen for the month is Kami PDFgoo.gl/Y2z6VS and it is available through the Chrome Web Store https://chrome.google.com/webstore/category/extensions.

This Google Chrome Extension is a powerful option and used widely for a variety of purposes.  This tool can be used to take a picture of a worksheet, so that the keyboard can be utilized to compensate for challenges with motor skills.  It can also be a valuable tool to offer reading support for tired eye or reading difficulties.

Features include the ability to:

  • Open, View, Annotate, and Collaborate on Google Docs, PDF’s, or other documents on your computer.

  • Multiple versions of Kami are available including a free version for users who occasionally need to access a PDF file.  The free version is limited to 15 pages.

  • Left toolbar (selecting the “>>” icon) will provide description of features.

  • Users can select, highlight, strikethrough, and underline text.

  • Additional options include the ability to add a text box and comments, as well as draw, add shapes, erase, insert images, add a signature, and listen to the text within the document through text-to-speech feedback.

Please note that features are dependent upon the specific version. Please refer to Kami’s account plans at the following URL: https://web.kamihq.com/web/upgrade.htmlfor additional subscription information.

TheraVision

TheraVision LLC is extremely excited to be partnering with ILOTA to offer our courses, "Through the Eyes of Occupational Therapy: Addressing Oculomotor and Visual Perceptual Dysfunction with a Pediatric Population" on April 4, 2020 and May 9, 2020 AND “Seeing is Believing: Visual Rehabilitation as it Applies to Rehabilitation Professionals” on June 6, 2020.

*With the most recent statewide "shelter-in-place" orders we are cancelling the April 4 AND the May 9 courses.  It is hard to tell if we will even be able to offer the course in May so we felt it would be best to cancel and reschedule later in the year.  We are considering using our June 6 course date to offer the pediatric content and will let you know when we make that decision.  We appreciate your interest and look forward to working with you in the future!  If you have any questions, please do not hesitate emailing to [email protected].*

TheraVision’s mission is to provide education to therapists supporting greater knowledge about vision and how visual deficits impact rehabilitation and functional ability in order to fully address the needs of the people we serve.  Whether it is someone who suffered a stroke with visual field loss, someone with double vision after a fall or a child with developmental visual deficits, we educate therapists about the whole process of recognizing and treating these visual deficits and referring clients to and collaborating with appropriate eye care professionals in the community.

Beverly Menninger MA OTR/L, Certified RMTi Consultant and Irlen Screener, has over 30 years of experience as an OT, the past 14 years addressing visual deficits and collaborating with eye care professionals in pediatrics, geriatrics, inpatient and outpatient settings, skilled nursing facilities, home health care and schools. She has combined her work addressing oculomotor and visual processing dysfunction with reflex integration (Rhythmic Movement Training – RMTi) creating a more holistic approach to OT services.

Kelly Frystak MOTR/L, ITOT has over 15 years of experience in sub-acute, skilled nursing, outpatient day rehabilitation and outpatient vision therapy while furthering her knowledge in post-concussion syndrome to become an Impact Trained OT –ITOT. Kelly’s expertise comes from her work with oculomotor dysfunction over the years and through the development of multiple visual rehabilitation programs including collaboration and consultation with numerous behavioral optometrists.
